Trench Section

Function Description: Calculate trench-related measurement data and attributes (such as volume and width).

For more accurate results, perform point cloud classification beforehand.

Operations such as related section projects, data management, and 2D window display refer to Section Analysis.

Prerequisite: After designing the section, click Trench Section to enter the trench section calculation workflow. Measurement section and report export functions will become available, and the 2D section display window will appear.

Only when the trench section is active are subsequent calculation buttons available. While active, you cannot switch projects or modify design data from the directory.

Calculate Measurement

Function Description: Generate measurement data that meets the parameter requirements and fits the trench point cloud based on design data and point cloud.

Click Calculate Measurement to open the settings dialog.

Parameter Dialog

Parameter Description

  • Measure Group: Select the measurement data group to calculate.
  • Trench Parameters
    • Section Thickness: Width of point cloud data used to generate the measurement cross-section.
  • General
    • From Class: Point cloud categories used to generate the section. Selecting the wrong category may result in incorrect output.

The red line represents the automatically generated measurement section. If the result does not meet expectations, it can be manually edited using the 2D cross-section editor.

Trench Attributes

While calculating the trench measurement section, the trench attributes are also computed:

  • Upper Width: Width at the top edge of the trench, shown as a blue line in the section diagram.
  • Bottom Width: Width at the trench bottom, shown as a cyan line.
  • Trench Depth: Depth of the trench, shown as a magenta line.

The line colors are default and can be customized. Node editing is supported (adding or deleting nodes is not supported). Volume attributes update automatically.

  • Length: Length of the current trench section. No corresponding vector line; displayed by default in the lower-left property window.
  • Volume: Volume of the current trench section. No corresponding vector line; displayed by default in the lower-left property window.

Volume = Length × (Top Width + Bottom Width) × Trench Depth ÷ 2.0
