3DGS
Overview
The right‑click menu for model data in the Layer Management Tree provides operations for 3DGS data, including importing and removing 3DGS datasets, as well as per‑dataset actions such as viewing information, display settings, zoom‑to‑layer, and export.
Gaussian models demand significant GPU and memory resources. Before loading large models, ensure that your system has sufficient available resources.

Import Data
LiDAR360 supports the following Gaussian data formats:
- LiSplat (
.LiSplat) - PLY (
.ply) - Gaussian dataset (
.xml)
Remove All
Removes all loaded model data from the software.

Information
Displays basic information about the dataset, including file path, and minimum/maximum X, Y, Z coordinates. Supported formats: LiSplat, PLY, and XML.
Open Containing Folder
Opens the folder where the current data file is stored.
Rename
Renames the current data file.
Zoom to Layer
Calculates the bounding box of the current 3DGS dataset and zooms the viewer window to fit the bounding box extent.
Display Settings (Render Settings)
Adjusts the rendering appearance of the Gaussian model. The following parameters are available:
Brightness
- Positive values: brighten the model
- Negative values: darken the model
- Default:
0
Contrast
- Positive values: increase contrast
- Negative values: decrease contrast
- Default:
0
Opacity
- Positive values: increase opacity
- Negative values: decrease opacity
- Default:
0
Click Default to reset brightness, contrast, and opacity to their default values.
- Render Level – Affects display quality only; does not modify the original Gaussian data. This setting is effective only for XML‑format Gaussian datasets.
| Level | Description |
|---|---|
| Fine | Prioritises model details; recommended for high‑performance computers. |
| Quality | Default level for everyday viewing. |
| Balanced | Balances visual quality and performance. |
| Performance | Prioritises smooth display; suitable for large models. |
- Save Rendering Adjustments – After adjusting brightness, contrast, and opacity, click Export in the Display Settings panel to save the adjusted result as a new Gaussian file:
- The new file is saved in the same directory as the original, with an automatically generated filename.
- The original file is never overwritten or modified.
- This function mainly supports individual LiSplat files; XML‑based Gaussian datasets are not currently supported.
Export
Right‑click a Gaussian layer in the file tree and select Export to export the current Gaussian model to:
- PLY (
.ply) - LiData (
.LiData)
Export creates new data files and does not modify the original Gaussian file.
Note the difference between the two export options:
| Entry Point | Function |
|---|---|
| Export in the file tree | Exports the Gaussian model to PLY or LiData. |
| Export in Display Settings | Saves the adjusted brightness, contrast, and opacity as a new Gaussian file. |
Remove
Removes the currently selected 3DGS dataset from the software.
