In Tinghir, a desert oasis city in southeastern Morocco, a multifunctional complex that blends Islamic architectural essence—serving religious, cultural, and administrative purposes—urgently requires precise digital preservation. Faced with irregular walls and intricate carvings, the client in Morocco chose the LiGrip handheld 3D laser scanner to efficiently capture the 3D data of the building façades and establish a high-accuracy digital twin.

  • On-site data collection with LiGrip

The client planned the scanning route in advance based on the site conditions, using the LiGrip SLAM scanner to scan the façades and surrounding environment.

  •  Smart processing with LiDAR360MLS

Real-time point cloud data was captured during scanning, which was then processed by LiDAR360MLS software to perform filtering, denoising, and other enhancements, resulting in high-quality point clouds. The point cloud data accurately reproduces the actual building structure, including irregular wall surfaces and finely detailed carvings.

(1) Rapid façade vectorization

Using the façade measurement module in LiDAR360MLS, the client drew vector elements of the building façade. Through the attribute table’s field calculator, they precisely calculated the area of elements like doors and windows, and length of line features, supporting energy-saving renovations.

(2) Efficient 2D floorplan generation

With the floorplan module in LiDAR360MLS, the client automatically extracted 2D vector floorplans of building structures from the classified façade point clouds. The results can be directly imported into AutoCAD.

(3) One-click Mesh model generation

Using the SLAM processing module in LiDAR360MLS, the client generated a Mesh model of the entire scene with a single click. The mesh model supports both measurement and mapping operations.
